Abstract

Objective: In this study, we conducted an online search with ¡°dental scaling¡± as the keyword in the Research Information Sharing Service (www.riss.kr) search engine from 1986 to December 2021 to analyze the trend of dental scaling research.

Methods: Data extracted using the Excel 2016 and NetMiner programs were refined, and only the keywords with a Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency coefficient of 0.5 or more were selected for the LDA (latent dirichlet allocation) topic modeling analysis to identify the topic name.

Results: Results of the topic modeling analysis showed that ¡°Health insurance coverage of scaling¡± accounted for the highest proportion of the five identified topics, followed by ¡°Study on oral health behavior,¡± ¡°Study on factors related to dental scaling experience,¡± ¡°Study on musculoskeletal diseases of dental hygienists,¡± and ¡°Experience in oral health education.¡±

Conclusion: Based on the topics and contents identified by analyzing the study trends on dental scaling using topic modeling, it was possible to infer changes in medical policy and study topics and subjects at each period. Moreover, visualizing the connection structure of the study areas should help to have an intuition of topics covered in future studies.
